In a significant move aimed at fostering deeper ties and boosting exchanges, China has announced visa-free entry for citizens (having ordinary passports) of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Starting June 9, passport holders from these four Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations will be allowed to enter the Republic of China for up to 30 days without a visa for business, sightseeing, visiting relatives or friends, exchanges, or transit.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that the trial policy will remain in effect for 1 year, until June 8, 2026. The policy will run on a trial basis before potential permanence. This trial period allows both sides to assess the impact and benefits of the new arrangement.
This initiative expands upon existing visa-free arrangements with the UAE and Qatar, meaning all six GCC member states now enjoy visa exemptions when travelling to China. This marks a significant milestone in China's foreign policy towards the Gulf region, signalling a desire for increased cooperation and engagement across various sectors. The full inclusion of all GCC members is evidence of the growing strategic partnership between China and the Gulf.
